How Do You Become A Member?
Becoming a member of the Chesapeake Rotary Club is simple. We encourage prospective members to attend one or more meetings to learn about Rotary, meet our members, and experience our commitment to service and fellowship firsthand.
If you are interested in making a difference in our community, developing professional and personal relationships, and joining a network of leaders dedicated to service, Rotary may be right for you.
After attending meetings and getting to know our club, a prospective member may be invited to apply for membership. Applications are reviewed by the club, and new members are welcomed through an induction ceremony. New members then have a 90-day probationary period where a list of orientation tasks will be assigned (Red-badge to Blue-badge requirements). Completion of these tasks is a requirement to become a full member.
What Is Expected Of Members?
Rotary is a membership organization, and the success of our club depends on the active participation of its members. Members are encouraged to attend meetings regularly, participate in service projects, support fundraising and community initiatives, and serve on committees when opportunities arise.
The Chesapeake Rotary asks members to:
- Attend meetings regularly (2 per month minimum).
- Participate in service projects and community activities (2 per year minimum).
- Volunteer at club fundraising efforts and special events (2 per year minimum).
- Uphold Rotary's high standards of ethics and integrity.
- Promote Rotary by inviting guests and sharing our mission with others.
- Pay club, district, and Rotary International dues in a timely manner.
Rotary is a hands-on organization, and members get out of Rotary what they put in. Active participation helps strengthen our club and increases our impact throughout the Chesapeake community.
What do membership dues cover?
Membership dues cover your weekly buffet lunch, Chesapeake Rotary Club dues, Rotary District dues, and Rotary International dues. These funds support club operations, leadership development, member resources, and Rotary's local and global service initiatives, including the worldwide effort to eradicate polio. We offer a discounted rate to members under 35 to encourage young professionals to get involved with the community.
